Kutsinhira Cultural Arts Center and Musekiwa Chingodza-Mhofela present GREAT CHANGE FOR ZIMBABWE
A night of traditional Zimbabwean music will be presented in support of Kutsinhira Cultural Arts Center of Eugene, and Ancient Ways/Nhimbe for Progress of Scio. Kutsinhira’s sponsored artist-in-residence for 2018, Musekiwa Chingodza, and his fellow musicians from Mhofela will perform beautiful mbira music. Three bands from Kutsinhira, including Jenaguru-Full Moon and Chapwititi, teen extraordinaires, will provide rousing marimba dance music.

This exciting evening of world music is sponsored by Kutsinhira Cultural Arts Center, a non-profit organization dedicated to studying and sharing the music of Zimbabwe. Kutsinhira was founded in 1990 to continue the work of Dr. Dumisani Maraire, a Shona master musician. Kutsinhira Cultural Arts Center is located on the Village School campus in South Eugene and offers Zimbabwean music classes to all ages and levels of experience. In addition to classes and performances, Kutsinhira sponsors musical residencies in Eugene for Zimbabwean master musicians, and financially supports development work directly in Zimbabwe.

Ancient Ways is heading into its 25th year as a non-profit, with a focus on preserving life-giving traditions of indigenous peoples, including their music, healing approaches, and art heritage. Ancient Ways has organized humanitarian outreach for a special project in rural Zimbabwe called Nhimbe for Progress, which is heading into its 20th year. Nhimbe for Progress provides Mhondoro, Zimbabwe residents with educational opportunities, health intervention, facilities improvements and sustainability training. 2019's mission includes building wells, maintaining preschool operations, improving the rural library, and uplifting the maturing girls with monthly care supplies, camp retreats, weekly well-being meetings, and music lessons.
